Areca nut or Bettlenut is widely found across almost all districts in Flores, commonly cultivated in home gardens and mixed farms in significant numbers, although official data on total acreage is limited. The trees generally begin bearing fruit at 4–5 years of age and can be harvested twice a year, typically during the dry season (July–August) and at the end of the year (November–December), making it a reliable smallholder crop with strong export potential.
